Frequently Asked Questions

Do We Take Insurance?

Uncommon Physical Therapy is an out-of-network healthcare provider, meaning we are not in contract with, nor do we directly accept insurance. However, we can provide you with all necessary information to submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement of all, or some of your physical therapy services. Our recommendation is to contact your insurance provider to better understand your out-of-network benefits prior to your first visit.

Why Out Of Network

While the traditional insurance model is certainly beneficial for some, for others our belief is that it inhibits our ability to properly examine, diagnose and provide intervention in the way we feel is best for you.

“Common” physical therapy practices will oftentimes recommend patients to seek services 3x/week over the course of 4-6 weeks. At Uncommon Physical Therapy, we usually see you 1-2x/week, and based on your response will provide best guidance to determine the frequency and duration of care.

“Common” physical therapy practices will oftentimes be treating multiple patients simultaneously. At Uncommon Physical Therapy, we see you directly one-to-one for each and every visit.

“Common” physical therapy practices will oftentimes utilize other clinicians, assistants or techs to provide your care. At Uncommon Physical Therapy, you work with just myself. Period.

Ultimately, what this amounts to is a higher level of care, less visits, less time spent away from work and family, and less overall costs. Time is valuable. Our promise is to ensure that your time is spent on what matters, you.

Do I Need A Referral?

It depends. Alabama is still considered a limited direct-access state. What this means is that for any injury or condition, we can provide an initial evaluation or consultation of a screening nature without a referral, to determine whether physical therapy is appropriate. If further medical evaluation is warranted, we have the resources to get you connected with a licensed medical professional quickly. If your situation is appropriate for immediate physical therapy interventions, we must require a referral from qualified medical provider to initiate care.

If you have already seen a physician, nurse practitioner, licensed assistant to a physician, dentist or chiropractor for your injury or condition, then a referral from that respective individual is required.

For anything related to injury prevention, reduction of stress, or promotion of fitness, there is no referral necessary.

What Paperwork is Required?

When you schedule an appointment, we will send you all the required documents and information prior to your visit.

What Are Our Hours of Operation?

Our hours are 6AM - 10PM, Monday - Saturday.

Nate has helped me recover from multiple injuries, including 2 ACL reconstructions (1 in each knee), as well as a labrum tear in my shoulder. He has always been on the cutting edge with new treatment modalities, and always puts the patients interests first...you will not get the usual run of the mill type of therapy experience with Nate, he will make sure he does what's right for you, and what's necessary in order to get you back to 100%. I would highly recommend!!

Nate is an incredible PT and an even better human. I’ve never been to a PT before that devotes so much time to truly listening and hearing your concerns. He will take his time and comprehensively assess what the best course of treatment is. Additionally, it is evident that he is passionate about continuing to educate himself on best and most up to date evidence based treatments. He’s honest and won’t try to push more needed visits only to pad his pocketbook. You won’t be disappointed!

Nate was so knowledgeable and helpful. I had serious neck pain for almost six months that had not been resolved. He spent so much time talking to me the first visit, and by the second visit, the pain was gone. Physical therapy doesn't always work that fast of course, but I had a great experience there and did not feel overwhelmed by the exercises he prescribed. I'm so grateful that I have stayed pain free since then thanks to his expertise. Highly recommend!

I went to a PT at a hospital and paid way to much! I could have flown down to see my friend at Uncommon PT and gotten better care for less than what I got charged for one visit!

After going to several of the big box physical therapy clinics, due to injuries from a catastrophic accident almost 5 years ago, I never saw any real progress. The therapy at the clinics is the same for everybody. Then the Lord lead to me Uncommon Physical Therapy and Nate Bower. Nate turned everything around with physical therapy that I had needed but had never received. He treated me like a whole person not just a body part. Nate incorporates setting goals and attaining them into the treatment, it is so important. Yes, it is the most effective physical therapy I have ever had. I would recommend Nate Bower to anyone, because he is the most uncommon Physical Therapist I've ever met. Uncommon Physical Therapy is not like the common PT clinics. You Will See Results!

Nate was my physical therapist for about two months after a minor car accident. I was experiencing back pain. Very warm welcoming, and down to earth experience. Typically with doctors I feel rushed and as if I am not heard. He pays every close attention to detail, and is not out for anyone’s money. He does therapy to educate patients so they do not have to depend on him or someone else. After two months feeling back to a 100 percent

In one visit, Nate was able to significantly reduce my hip pain with dry needling, and teaching me stretches and self massaging techniques to do at home. He is my go to PT for everything.
